As the bride entered her home for the first time as a married woman, her mother in law would break a piece of the wedding her cake over her head as she stepped through the door. My sister has been engaged much longer than me, but didn't start getting serious about planning a wedding until just recently. My mom thinks all my wedding talk kind of gave her a kick in the butt to get going on it. At first she was thinking next year. Like me, she wants to get married somewhere on a waterfront. That didn't bother me. I've seen very seemingly-high-maintenance brides complain about it on wedding sites, but even they seem to be complaining about siblings or friends getting married in the same month of the same year, and the general consensus is to tell them to get over it. posted by jaguar at 7:15 PM on June 30, 2014 [2 favorites] A girl who steps on a cat’s tail, whether intentionally or accidentally, will not marry in the same year. If a girl who is engaged accidentally drops a knife, it is a sign that her fiance is coming to visit. It is bad luck to wear an emerald for an engagement ring. Doing so will cause you to die an old maid.
